Full-Stack Engineer (Ruby on Rails & Vue.js)
Must be based in Europe

About Ziggu

Ziggu (www.ziggu.io) is looking for an ambitious full-stack engineer to join our growing team. We are passionate about the digital transformation in real estate. Ziggu helps real estate companies better understand, inform, and engage their customers - homebuyers - by offering an online customer portal - before, during, and after construction. In short, we help real estate companies turn their customers into brand ambassadors.

To make it more tangible: when today you buy a $15 pizza through a food delivery app (like UberEats or Deliveroo) you’re able to better track what’s happening with that pizza than when you buy a $350.000 apartment. This doesn’t make any sense in a world of awesome customer experiences we all know and come across in our daily lives. That’s where Ziggu comes in. We help real estate companies work more efficiently and at the same time drastically improve customer service and satisfaction.

Vice President of Engineering
Lawn Love Apply
Android Laravel Php Jira Ios
Apply

Headquarters: San Diego, CA
URL: https://lawnlove.com

Description

We're Lawn Love -- a digital marketplace for lawn care and gardening services. We're like Uber or Lyft, but for the lawn care space.

We launched in San Diego six years ago and have raised funding from investors like Y Combinator, Bullpen Capital, Joe Montana, Alexis Ohanian, Barbara Corcoran and others. We've been on a growth tear ever since, and are now operating in over 120 cities across the U.S.

We're a fully remote team and are looking for an ambitious VP of Engineering who is passionate about people, technology, and growing a high-performing remote engineering organization, with the goal of helping us build great products and deliver amazing services to our customers.

We're looking for someone who can establish engineering standards, ensure we have a strong technical vision, manage the product roadmap, and roll out effective engineering best practices. The ideal candidate has startup experience and a knack for juggling responsibilities. This role reports to and works in close collaboration with the CEO.

Your role
  • While we've hit significant scale as a company, our engineering team is still fairly small (5 people currently). You'd be responsible for helping build and maintain our unique engineering culture. You'll lead by example as you model Lawn Love's values.
  • Handle one-on-ones with engineers, administer performance reviews, and serve as the team's coach. You'll remove whatever barriers exist between engineers and their best-possible work.
  • Review pull requests to stay knowledgeable about the ever-evolving codebase.
  • Scale the engineering team's brainpower; keep the engineering organization nimble to meet current and future needs; be a conduit for information sharing within ENG and the broader company.
  • Manage the product roadmap, and work alongside product owners to inform development of new features.
  • Manage sprints, retros, and the day-to-day of our eng team.
  • Plan for the engineering organization's future. What does Lawn Love look like a year from now and how do we get there?
  • Identify and hire gifted engineers who will be a great fit for the team, and thrive at Lawn Love.
  • Measure and report on team productivity, performance, and relevant development KPIs, and defining and executing OKRs

Our stack + engineering culture
  • PHP/Laravel 5, Typescript, React and React Native iOS and Android Apps
  • Running in AWS with one-click deploys from GitHub and peace-of-mind with Travis CI test suits
  • Deep integrations with Twilio, Sendgrid, Google Cloud APIs, Amazon Web Services, and many more
  • Using agile best practices in Jira to manage the pipeline of new projects
  • Huge fans of continuous integration, one-idea-per-commit, and feature flag philosophies

Why lawn care?

Lawn Love solves problems for both lawn care consumers (anyone with grass, shrubs, or xeriscaping) and the pros doing the work. We've brought a suite of 21st century tools to a very antiquated industry, including: Online quoting, scheduling, and payments; quantitative analyses to ensure consumers get a great lawn pro, every time; and job routing and clustering algorithms that increase pros' route density and efficiency.

Our company
  • We're both well-funded and capital efficient. We launched out of YCombinator in 2014, and have raised significant funding from world-class investors over the last few years.
  • Looking for personal development? This role will have you working with every function in the company, and managing a suite of applications that touch hundreds of thousands of customers.
  • We're here to work hard, have fun, and make history. Our goal is to massively improve the lives of millions of small business owners (our lawn pros) and help them better compete and thrive.

Requirements
  • You are experienced at leading engineering teams: Everything from hiring, coaching, and providing guidance on technical decisions.
  • Hands on knowledge of software engineering best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, agile development, code reviews, and source control management
  • Extensive experience recruiting and developing top engineering talent
  • You've kept your technical skills sharp, and have recent hands-on experience.
  • You have experience managing cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, etc) and infrastructure as code best practices
  • You're familiar with security best practices
  • You have strong working knowledge of data structures and algorithms.
  • You appreciate (or at least tolerate) well-crafted memes and non-sequitur humor.

Benefits
  • Unmetered vacation, full health coverage, 401k, and more.
  • A sane working environment with real work/life balance.
  • Significant equity. When we say you’ll be an “owner,” we mean that not just in the metaphorical sense.
  • All the benefits of a fully remote company. Zero commute, and you can work from anywhere you're productive.

Come make history with us.

Senior Frontend (React, GraphQL) Engineer @ Conferize
Conferize Apply
Rails Slack Ruby Graphql Postgresql
Apply

Headquarters: Copenhagen, Denmark
URL: https://www.conferize.com

We are a fast growing startup, building an awesome product. We are looking for senior front-end developers to help shape and take part in the process.

About Us
Conferize is on a mission to enable anyone to gather a community, share knowledge and create change. So we’re building a universal and social event solution to help event makers create the biggest impact. Without fuss or big budgets. Why? Because we need to meet.

How We Work
At Conferize we strive to cultivate a multicultural environment where work, socializing and personal development go hand in hand. We invest in people who are driven and motivated and believe in changing the status quo. We love creative thinkers and self starters, who never wait to be told what to do.

We believe in a flat bottom-up organization of work where culture trumps policy. We have little-to-no 'middle layer', as our team work semi-autonomously and leadership is semi-internalized. We're 100% product-driven, operating with a zero bug policy and exceptional product design; how things look, how they work and how they're built.

Like us you’re ambitious and professional, yet nice to be around. You have excellent standards for how you communicate and collaborate. We'll give you everything you need to do your absolute best, most creative and challenging work – with the least amount of frustration. Oh, and we never outsource development and we don't work with arbitrary deadlines, because we believe both lead to bad solutions.

Our main office is in Copenhagen and we work with flexible hours. Working remotely is an option if you’re in no more than 1 hour from our main time zone (Central European Time).

We believe in fewer great people than many average and invest in people who are self-driven. We have a zero-bug policy and actively try to avoid technical debt.

General Requirements
  • Excellent English communication skills.
  • Have a team mentality. We help each other thrive in order to help our customers make great events.
  • High degree of motivation and engagement.
  • Collaborative, upfront, positive attitude.
  • Effective, responsible and self-driven team players.
  • Pragmatic but with a high attention to detail.
  • You see and understand the mechanisms and hidden details which make a digital product unique.
  • You’ve been part of a product driven organisation and have hands-on UX and design experience developing professional digital products.
  • You are located in Copenhagen or within maximum 1 hour timezone difference.
  • All positions are full time (37 hours pr. week).
We’re obviously hunting for someone who understands why creating digital products is the best drug in the world.

Special Requirements for Remote Workers
  • You must have high speed Internet and a quality video camera (720p+) and a good microphone for Google Hangouts.
  • You must be able to travel to Copenhagen, Denmark (at our expense) team building get-togethers.
  • You must be online throughout your work day, especially during core business hours 10 am to 3 pm CET, using Slack for communication with the distributed team.

Specific Requirements

The ideal front-end developer candidate is a pragmatic generalist, has great communication skills and is able to juggle multiple tasks. We have built an isomorphic front-end experience based upon React and Apollo with a Ruby on Rails backend which provides our GraphQL API.
  • At least 3 years of Javascript professional experience.
  • At least 1 year of React or similar experience.
  • Proficient understanding of CSS.
  • Understand and able to implement smooth browser based animations at 60FPS
  • You care about writing semantic well formed code and paying attention to standards and good practices.
  • You live and breathe the web. It’s close to your heart, at your fingertips.
  • Proficient understanding of Git.
  • You're a Mac person.

Bonus Skills
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails or similar frameworks.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL.

What We Offer
  • To be part of an adventure. With a great team of highly motivated and engaged individuals, who are also great team players. We are on an exciting journey towards something big.
  • Opportunity to work with the latest technologies on the next iteration of Conferize being rebuilt from the ground up which you'll be heavily involved in. We're building a cutting edge product and user experience.
  • Real participation and team work. You are not getting a list of stuff to do; you are part of the process of both deciding and doing. Your opinion is valued.
  • Competitive salary/equity.
  • Flexible vacation policy - take time off as you need it.

How to Apply
NOTE: If you are representing a developer or an outsourcing company we are not interested. Please do not email us. If you are not

Sounds interesting? Email Rúben Fonseca at rf@conferize.com with:
  • your application, a few words about yourself and why you find the position interesting.

Lead Software Engineer
InsurGrid Apply
React Scrum Django Aws Python
Apply

Headquarters: San Francisco
URL: https://www.insurgrid.com/

About InsurGrid
The way to buy and sell insurance is broken — we're on a mission to change this. Consumers can connect their bank account to financial apps to manage their money, but can't connect their insurance account to receive a competitive quote. We're building Plaid-like technology to facilitate a modern insurance shopping experience and build developer-first infrastructure.

It all starts with the agent. The agent is the main distribution channel for the $684B P&C industry. The agent represents 93% of all P&C insurance policies issued in the United States. The agent is the plumbing behind the insurance industry and they need a platform to make buying insurance frictionless, personalized, and modern.

We’ve been moving fast since we founded InsurGrid in January 2020. Since then, we’ve built and launched the initial version of our product to 150+ customers and raised a pre-seed round led by Engineering Capital.

We are currently operating as a fully remote team due to Covid. Our ideal candidate will be in the Pacific or Mountain time zone.

About the Role
As a tech lead on our team, you will establish the technical vision with the engineering team and contribute to the development of our core product infrastructure. You will act both as a leader and individual contributor to build automation and data extraction processes that will scale our initial product. You will be responsible for leading a team and alignment of the technical direction, while building new products that will accelerate business growth and deliver value to customers.

You will work closely with our customers, founding team, and advisor network to have a holistic understanding of the problems we're solving and opportunities in the market. You will take these learnings to develop, prioritize, and execute against a roadmap. You will be expected lead by example, take ownership of our core product infrastructure, ship fast and consistently, iterate rapidly, and identify ongoing opportunities to deliver value to customers.

You thrive on the freedom and responsibility of working on a remote team. You are an excellent technical communicator and can come to a logical consensus on decisions. You can handle multiple projects and dynamic priorities without missing a beat. You gracefully assume the role of an educator and a learner.

Qualifications
  • JavaScript (React, Node.js preferred)
  • Python (Django preferred)
  • Understanding of web technologies and system design (AWS preferred)
  • Upholding and uplifting code quality
  • Ability to work autonomously and adapt quickly
  • Execute on impact-driven roadmap
  • Obsessive focus on agile frameworks (SCRUM)
Why InsurGrid?
  • Hands-on experience building a company from the earliest stages
  • Take on significant ownership of technical design and implementation
  • Work with great agility to accelerate your developer experience trajectory
  • Flexible vacation time to promote a healthy work-life balance
  • Education and learning stipend for personal growth and development
  • Competitive salary, meaningful equity, and benefits

InsurGrid values diversity and is committed to a policy of Equal Employment Opportunity. InsurGrid will not discriminate against an applicant or employee on the basis of race, color, religion, creed, national origin, ancestry, sex, gender, age, physical or mental disability, veteran or military status, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, or any other legally recognized protected basis under federal, state, or local law.

Front End Developer (WordPress)
Yoko Co Apply
Wordpress Html5 Javascript Php
Apply

Headquarters: McLean, VA
URL: https://www.yokoco.com/

We’re searching for a front-end web developer who wants to build pixel-perfect layouts (often in WordPress) that help make the world a better place.

A Bit About Us

We’re a digital marketing agency that works exclusively with organizations who have a purpose beyond profit.

We’re a tight-knit team, and everyone works remotely. Our team is located all over the United States, and in Europe, South America, and Asia. We value an ownership mentality, we’ve got each other’s backs, and we pride ourselves on our company culture. We don’t micromanage, and we’re always looking for ways to do things better.

But enough about us, let’s talk about you!

The Position

On a day-to-day basis, you’ll work closely with designers, other developers, project managers, and strategists, to build neat stuff (lots of WordPress websites, but sometimes other things) for our clients and for ourselves. You’ll set up installs, write code, customize themes, set up custom post types, page builders, launch sites, and everything in between. You’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to project strategy, help create reusable codebases, and teach (and learn from) your team members.

Generally, you’ll be working on at least a few “big” projects at once, and also pitching in with other odds and ends as they arise.

Skills“R”Us

Here’s some of the stuff you’ll need to know/be able to do/enjoy:

  • Extensive knowledge of WordPress. The easy parts and hard parts.
  • Strong ability with HTML5 & CSS3. Clean, fast code should make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
  • Experience with PHP and Javascript, particularly as they pertain to WordPress.
  • Deep knowledge of popular WordPress page builders, particularly Beaver Builder and Elementor, to build dynamic layouts and integrate them with custom post types and custom fields.
  • A general technical knowledge of SEO, accessibility, and performance optimization.
  • You should have a minimum of a few years of experience. We want someone who has seen the good, the bad, and the ugly sides of front end development and knows how to tell them apart.
  • A decent eye for UI/UX best practices. You won’t be designing, but sometimes you might have to “wing it” and do something like laying out a form or setting up a mega menu that isn’t super confusing.
  • Bonus: Experience working at an agency, or running your own freelance website business.
  • Extra Bonus: Experience with other non-WordPress content management systems, Javascript frameworks, and covert underwater demolition.

Some Pretty Neat Things About Working Here

A flexible work schedule. Unlimited vacation. Competitive pay. Participation in our annual shutdown (two weeks off, sometimes more, at the end of the year). Also, we celebrate most major holidays by not working. Most importantly, you’ll be working on projects that really matter.

We welcome applicants from around the world, but you have to be willing to work hours that have some overlap with normal business hours in at least one of the US time zones.

Please include a link to your portfolio with your application.

QA Automation Engineer
TaxJar Apply
Rails Ruby

Headquarters: Remote
URL: https://www.taxjar.com/jobs/

There’s a person we want to work with.

Thing is, we're not talking about someone specific. In fact, that’s the problem. We’re talking about a set of traits and an attitude, which is scarce! We want QA Engineers who see things differently;  that don't conform to the norm. You’re ready to get the job done, and even surprise us.

There are so many lousy job descriptions for engineers in the world, we’re writing down what we’re looking for in hopes that this person (you?) is out there:
  • You understand that communication is the biggest responsibility of your job, and the one you’re least likely to get right unless you focus on it
  • When you take on a task whether it’s huge and scary or tiny and boring, you’re going to see it through to the best of your ability
  • You focus on building tests for products that protect users and that matter to the company you’re building them for
  • You are confident with a number of programming languages and tools. You probably have one of each you prefer right now, but you’re neither dogmatic nor myopic in your focus on it

What we Expect from our QA Automation Engineer:
  • Work with the Product and Development  teams in developing a QA testing strategy for projects
  • Determining the appropriate balance of manual and automated tests, as well as the types of tests (UI, API, functional/performance/load, and so on)
  • Improve and build upon our test suite, test guidelines, and testing culture
  • Review and test your teammates’ pull requests

About you:
  • 3+ years of software testing & development experience including manual and automated testing of  web applications and APIs
  • Advanced problem-solving, debugging and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with, and a strong understanding of Ruby on Rails and RSpec
  • Ability to manage tasks from assignment through to production
  • Rapid learner who thrives in a fast-paced and demanding environment
  • You have remote communication and collaboration down to an art (chat, video, email, etc)
  • Experience improving test suite performance
  • A solid team player (we’re peers here, no egos, please), you highly value working with people you like and respect, you’re agile, humble,  trustworthy, and you’re comfortable working asynchronously, too
  • Accountable, you’re hungry to play an impactful role and not afraid to fail

At TaxJar,  we believe a  diverse team creates better solutions for our customers.  Read our Diversity statement below:

TaxJar is a human-first company.

People are accepted and free to be who they are.

Our formula is simple. We believe we have an elevated level of responsibility in everything we do. This means we empower our team to do the right thing for each other and for our customers, and we do the right thing, even when it's harder. We’ve built a team based on trust, that endeavors to maximize our team members’ individual talents so our workplace creates a sense of meaning and belonging for everyone.

We're looking for someone who wants to be an early engineer at a rapidly growing, venture-backed company. “Rapid prototyping.” “Design sprints.” “User centric.” I’m sure you’re familiar with these terms. They’re supposed to help companies build things faster. The thing is: they don’t work if the user research process is too slow. We’re solving that problem.

We work in an adapted version of Basecamp's shape up where teams work on efforts in a fixed time / variable scope framework. Our PM/PD pairs split time between two engineering duos where each squad (PM, PD, and two engineers) work through what the solution will look like and how we can get there.

We do all our work in engineering duos. You and your partner in crime will figure out implementation details and attack the problem as you see fit. Everyone works on the full stack and contributes to every aspect of the product life cycle. We are always looking to add more people to teach and learn from as we build our team and product.

Our stack starts with Ruby on Rails with a Postgres database hosted on Heroku. We use Sidekiq with Redis for background job processing. Our front end is powered by React with simple ERB pages where appropriate. We are growing our home grown design system and use SASS to help manage our CSS. We leverage RSpec for unit testing our Rails app.

Software Engineer - Ruby, Rails, and JavaScript
Churn Buster Apply
Braintree Heroku Stripe Sql Rails
Apply

Headquarters: San Diego, CA
URL: https://churnbuster.io

~10% of recurring payments fail each month. For subscription companies, this can account for up to 50% of their churn. Basic “dunning” solutions are widely available, however, aren’t able to accommodate unique brands and business models.

Churn Buster is a premium dunning solution for unique brands and businesses.

Churn Buster integrates easily with any billing system via our API, and it’s even easier with our first class integrations for Stripe Billing, Braintree, and ReCharge/Shopify.

With this important role, you will be making it faster and easier to get started with new integrations, continuing to develop and maintain each one.

You’ll be working closely with our Senior Software Engineer, Scott Albertson, learning how Churn Buster works and can be improved.

About you

You’ve been working with Rails for years. You love how fast you can move with it, but you also know when to head in the opposite direction of the Rails way. Using POROs, Rails Engines, and event publication/subscribing doesn’t scare you, and you see the benefits when working with a large codebase.

At the same time, you know where to draw the line. Working for a small company, you know how important growth is, and you work to identify 80% solutions to close loops, and move on to the next challenging problem to solve.

You’ve worked heavily with APIs and Webhooks in the past. You understand idempotency, error handling, race conditions, and you’ve witnessed first-hand what can go wrong when careful planning doesn’t go into system architecture.

You write tests and practice TDD, but don’t overcomplicate the codebase in the name of faster tests or 100% coverage.

You enjoy writing documentation so that customers, teammates, and future-you don’t have to use those darn brains to figure-out already solved problems.

And you’re not afraid to jump into Slack with customers to help ensure their integration or experience is going smoothly.

We’re at our best when we’re solving hard problems for customers, and you take pride in being a part of that.

Your responsibilities at Churn Buster

– Add new payment processor integrations
– Improve and support existing integrations (Stripe, Braintree, Shopify)
– Investigate and fix issues reported by customers
– Work with our customers’ engineering teams when they need help
– Write documentation regularly for recurring confusion points

Requirements/Experience

– Ruby
– Rails
– Sidekiq
– API development and design
– Webhooks
– Postgres
– Heroku
– Git
– RSpec or Minitest

Bonus points

– Experience with Stripe and Braintree APIs
– In-depth knowledge of SQL and optimizing complex queries
– Breaking up large Rails applications using Engines
– Publish-Subscribe patterns in Rails

About the Job

– Full-Time
– 100% Remote
– Generous vacation policy
– Small team

How to apply

Email your contact information with answers to the following questions to scott@churnbuster.io.
  1. I know how to use git to do my work in a branch, and then rebase and squash my branch into the main branch.
  2. I can build production web applications in Ruby on Rails and deploy to Heroku.
  3. I can identify and fix pages in a Rails application that are slow to respond.
  4. I regularly practice test-driven development.
  5. I am comfortable with JavaScript and have opinions about when to use a third-party framework.
  6. I know SQL, including what GROUP BY and LEFT JOIN do.
  7. I can create and prioritize a backlog of features.
  8. Last but not least, what are your favorite software development books?

What is Myagi?
Myagi is a VC-backed, high-growth tech startup that’s changing the way brands and retailers share knowledge.

Our business-to-business network connects everyone in the retail supply chain and our SaaS platform combines online training and communication to equip sales associates with targeted brand and product knowledge.

For brands, we enable them to connect and distribute content directly to the retailers that stock their products around the world. There's a direct communication channel to frontline staff and they get real time feedback through detailed analytics.
For retailers, we integrate a combination of external supplier content with internal "tribal knowledge" to ensure that frontline staff have access to the right information, at exactly the right time, to help drive sales and enhance the customer experience.

We have a fast-growing network global customers, including some of the world's leading retailers and brands such as Nike, Gibson Guitars, Bayer, Unilever, Giant Bikes and Garmin... to name a few.

What it's like to be an engineer at Myagi
Engineers at Myagi are typically generalists with one or more key specialties. Working at a fast growing company means our engineers get to work across the entire stack and to be responsible for critical projects - thus, we value people who are excited by the idea of having a large impact on the future of our business and user-base every single day. We also value people who enjoy working autonomously, cross-functionally and who are always looking to develop skills in areas which interest them.

Because of this, our team consists of people who are excited about finding elegant solutions to difficult technical challenges in-order to deliver exceptional user experiences. Recent and upcoming challenges include: Building a powerful frontline messaging app to rival the likes of Slack and Whats-app, shifting to fully immutable infrastructure deployment using Docker and AWS, developing an automated network growth engine to connect companies in our network and building an innovative on-device video download system to conserve bandwidth for enterprise customers.

Finally, a large part of our focus as an engineering team is on self-development and mentor-ship. Partly, we encourage this through our weekly rotating lightning talks and reading groups. But more fundamentally, we make it a core responsibility of every team member to do what they can to help the rest of the team improve. Aptitude for this responsibility is something we are especially focused on when hiring.

Our Values
We believe teamwork is a craft and we strive to master it. We win as a team of teams. We win and we celebrate together. We lose and we learn together. Just like we tell our customers, we work better together too! Value 1 - One Team Wins

Myagi has a coaching culture. It’s everyone’s job to help each other improve through deliberate feedback. Everyone has the responsibility to practice what they learn from their coaches at work and we invest in continually improving as a team. Value 2 - Everyone a coach, every one a player

We believe that great ideas can come from anywhere in the business and so from our graduates to the CEO and leadership team, everyone has a voice and they are all equally valid. But you have to speak up and be passionate about your view to ensure your message gets through. Value 3 - Respectfully Noisy

Passion is everything to us because we care about the customers we build products for, the teammates we work with and the partners we rely on. We hold each other to account and we take initiative. Value 4 - Give a Shit

Why you'll love working with us
  • Our Attitude: We’re creating a new category from scratch!

Spreedly is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to fostering, cultivating and preserving a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion. We actively work to drive out even unintentional discrimination in our hiring processes via practices like blindly graded work samples, structured interviews, and diversity awareness training.

Due to the sensitive nature of what Spreedly does- handling payment data- candidates must complete a successful background check. If you have concerns along those lines, please discuss with us sooner rather than later- we do not want you to waste time in the hiring process and get disqualified at the end if we can help it.

Some of our positions are open to remote applicants. If this is the case it will be sited in the job posting just below the position name. Unless otherwise stated, remote positions are open to candidates in the contiguous US only. We are not set up to support remote employees from CA, NY, WA or outside the contiguous US. Seeq makes data analytics software for a big market that’s often overlooked by tech companies: industrial process data. Think pharmaceutical manufacturers, wind farms, and energy companies with tons of equipment and sensors. Our software engineers tackle hard problems in streaming calculation, storage, and distributed computing, leveraging the latest features in Java 11, Kotlin, and PostgreSQL.

Our company was founded 100% remote and we're proud of it. We were good at remote long before COVID and will continue to be remote when COVID is a memory. You can work anywhere in a compatible time zone (our core hours are 8am-12pm Pacific). We use a variety of collaboration tools, like Zoom, Slack, and our homegrown Qube Virtual Office, which make us feel like we're in the same building together. We use agile tenets to iterate on both our product and development processes. We have a wonderful team of kind-hearted, talented engineers that love to collaborate, teach each other new tricks, and build products that exceed our customers’ expectations.

Our technology stack is largely JVM languages (Java, Kotlin) with some C#/.NET. The core of our product is a full-featured calculation engine that can perform complex math and execute machine learning algorithms on streaming time series data.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As a Software Engineer focusing on Performance at Seeq, you will:
  • Develop and improve tools to measure and analyze the performance of Seeq’s software. Collaborate to create product performance/scalability benchmarks.
  • Identify and quantify product performance bottlenecks. Develop and implement software solutions to mitigate performance bottlenecks.

SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

You love to code, and you love great software design. A well-written API brings you joy.

You are constantly finding ways to perfect your craft, be a better teammate, and come up with cool stuff.

You’re disciplined with a high attention to detail. You evangelize unit testing, continuous integration, and elegant solutions. You are allergic to bugs and have to take care of them immediately.

You learn things quickly. You readily explore new technologies and approaches. You listen really well, and you know how to make your ideas be heard without turning people off.

You are comfortable working in a JVM language (Java, Kotlin, Scala, etc.) You want to work with the tech stack we listed above, and on cloud platforms like AWS/Azure/GCE. You may be an expert at one (or more!) of these.

You have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent relevant experience.

Lead Full Stack Rails Engineer
Nadine West Apply
Rails
Apply

Headquarters: Austin, TX
URL: https://www.nadinewest.com

Description

Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, you will dive in and take ownership of our existing codebase, helping extend and scale our bespoke recommendations engine, order management, inventory, shipping, and reporting components.

This is a great opportunity to lead the engineering team of a startup that is already profitable, already a well-known brand for women, but is still growing fast even in COVID times. We need someone who can not only build our existing codebase, but also push the envelope, as we are developing some sophisticated data science capabilities, similar to Netflix, Amazon, and Stitch Fix.

Founded in 2014, Nadine West sends personalized outfits to our customers’ doorsteps every month. We are based in Austin TX, but we are a remote-first company, so you can live and work anywhere.

Requirements

You partner with stakeholders to understand the business needs and design right-sized solutions, able to move from open-minded design thinking to breaking problems down and iterating to create working software.

You have built, launched, extended, and maintained a business-critical Rails app long enough to learn from your decisions, and love sharing those stories.

You are comfortable directing and mentoring other engineers with humility.

You have time-tested beliefs about code quality, testing, architecture, database design, ORMs, and build vs. buy tradeoffs, and enjoy articulating those beliefs to your colleagues.

You’re at home owning the entire product development cycle (design, dev, testing, release, monitoring).

You’ve managed CI/CD pipelines and love auto-deploying to production after your well-honed tests pass.

You cherish focused, low-interruption deep work like we do (See 37 Signals’ “Group Chat is Making you Sweat”).

You’re excited to work remotely, but also excited to share a US timezone and let us host you in Austin one day!

Benefits

1) This position pays somewhere between your local pay and Austin pay (Google “Austin senior software engineer salary”.)

2) You can work and live anywhere that makes you happy.

3) We have always been a remote work company, collaborating across multiple continents. We believe you should be free to work whenever and wherever you choose.

Senior Software Engineer - Engineering Hiring
Automattic Apply
Javascript Php
Apply

Headquarters: San Francisco
URL: https://www.automattic.com/

Evaluating engineers for skills, attitude, and potential for learning and growth is one of the most important, yet hardest jobs in an engineering organization. The complexity of people can’t be measured, averaged, and compared like time to first byte can, unless we want to hide our unconscious biases in the numbers, too.

As the Automattic engineering organization started growing, we went back to first principles, instead of randomly copy/pasting bits and pieces from past experiences and from across the industry. The process we designed reduced bias via text interviews, extra flexibility for applicants, and training for interviewers. A core principle is to test good mutual fit via tasks closer to “production” – closer to the day-to-day work of a developer at Automattic. During different stages, this principle shows in different ways. At the interview, you are free to use Google or Stack Overflow. The take-home test is an existing codebase, instead of an abstract algorithmic task. Our final “trial” project gives you enough space to show your real programming, architecture, and writing skills. It’s okay if you don’t get everything right the first time – we will give you feedback and you’ll be able to take a breath before you respond and make it right.

Using this process we’ve hired a few hundred great engineers who have helped build and maintain our plethora of products and retention and engagement have been consistently higher than industry averages. Scaling a process like this, though, has been a tough challenge and we need help.

As a next step in our scaling efforts, we’re looking for a few full-time engineers to join our Developer Experience team and work together with our current hiring group of engineers and recruiters. Here’s what the day-to-day work would look like:
  • Participating in every stage of the hiring process – conducting interviews, reviewing coding tests, working closely with applicants who reached the trial stage.
  • Improving the hiring process – this can include anything from clarifying rubrics, through updating interview questions or trial tasks, to rethinking whole stages, so that they take less time, give us the same amount of signal, are easier to evaluate, and are more fun for applicants.
  • Onboarding engineers into work on hiring – pair-interviewing, mentoring and coaching them on both the technical and philosophical aspects of hiring.
  • If you need to scratch your coding itch, we have few hiring tools that are mature, but can use the occasional fix, troubleshooting, or an extra feature.
  • Consulting our team of recruiters on outreach, application review, operational data from the hiring process.

This position might be a good fit if you:
  • Are an experienced software engineer who has worked on large-scale projects in medium-sized or big teams. If your previous organizations had an explicit engineering ladder, you may have been a senior or staff/principal engineer.
  • Have experience leading technical projects – scoping, agreeing on architecture, designing for scalability and performance.
  • Are comfortable using PHP and JavaScript. These are the two languages we mostly use at Automattic – you should either be familiar with them already or the idea of using them on a daily basis and learning them deeply should not be a blocker for you.
  • Are highly collaborative and you love participating in code reviews and discussions about architecture, or design.
  • Have some experience in engineering hiring – interviewing, making decisions.
  • Experience or at least strong interest in the people side of engineering – teaching, onboarding, mentoring.
  • Are interested in reasoning from first principles. While easier in the world of technology, we’d like to bring it to making fairer decisions about people.

Extra credit:
  • People management experience.
  • Experience in designing hiring processes for engineers.
  • Interest or experience in programs designed to help underrepresented people enter the tech field.
  • Data analysis and statistics skills or interest.

Here are some areas in which you can grow and have further impact in the future at the company:
  • Owning a stage of the hiring process – experimenting with tasks for deeper testing of core skills and for ease of review, for better applicant experience. Maybe even create a whole new stage in the process :-)
  • Owning the overall engineering hiring strategy –
  • People management – either within the engineering hiring group or elsewhere in the engineering organization.
  • Software engineering – going back to writing code or leading technical projects is also a possible route. We’re supportive of the engineer/manager pendulum.
  • People side of engineering – we are growing a team to work on projects like engineering performance at scale, processes for matching engineers to teams and projects, skills matrices, and growth frameworks.

DIVERSITY & INCLUSION AT AUTOMATTIC

Frontend Engineer (React)
HelpDocs Apply
Es6 Jquery React Git Slack
Apply

Headquarters: Remote
URL: https://www.helpdocs.io

As a Frontend Engineer on the Product team you'll be working closely with the company founders to create new features and update existing code in React. We have a bunch of React apps so you'll have a pretty varied day to day.

About the role

The main responsibilities of this role:
  • Create new user-facing features in React
  • Maintain legacy libraries in jQuery (there's not many I promise) and ES6+
  • Maintain existing React code and fix bugs in production
  • Create and maintain extensions, integrations, and other frontend user-facing products
  • Write good, readable, clean, testable code (with tests 😏)
  • Test your code in our staging environments before deploying to production
  • Identify areas we could improve in the product and share with the team
As a member of a small team you'll also need to get stuck into things outside your wheelhouse. Here’s some examples of tasks you might be asked to do as part of your role:
  • Respond to customer technical support emails and escalations from the Customer Education team
  • Work with the rest of the Product team to design new features and APIs
  • Deploy code to our production Kubernetes clusters through our CI/CD pipeline
  • Write technical documentation for the team and users

Perks

  • ~ 28 paid vacation days per year. Take the time you need to be healthy and happy. We’re not counting—this is honor based.
  • One fully-paid team retreat. We’ll go somewhere nice for a week and HelpDocs’ll pick up all your expenses.
  • $300/m healthcare stipend toward private health insurance
  • 12 weeks fully paid parental leave
  • $70/m towards a gym membership or other fitness activities
  • $2500 equipment allowance given every 3 years.

Pay

The range for this role is $54-78k per year. We don’t pay on location. We have bands based on experience. You’ll be retained as a full-time consultant and responsible for your own taxes.

Job requirements
  • You have a personality and you're not afraid to show it 🦄✨
  • You're fluent (like a native) in English and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • You communicate thoughtfully and inclusively. You take what others say with positive intent. Even if you think they’re being an asshole.
  • You see diversity and inclusion as something to be celebrated. Something non-negotiable. That translates to the language you choose, your attitude towards other people, and to your deliverables at work.
  • You're not afraid of getting your hands dirty in different areas of the business
  • You thrive on direct feedback, positive and negative, and are constantly working to be the best you can be. You’re happy giving direct feedback too.
  • You're a self-starter. Working in the gray with a ton of uncertainty doesn't phase you.
  • You're happiest working remotely and have been doing so for at least a year
  • You have experience communicating asynchronously across timezones through tools like Twist, Threads, Slack, Zoom, etc.
  • You’re passionate about your work and customer-focused
  • You have access to rock-solid high speed internet and love showing your face on video calls with the team and customers
  • You want to treat HelpDocs as your full time role, you aren't currently studying, and you don’t want this as a side gig alongside another role or freelancing.
  • You have 2+ years experience writing React code that's used in a production environment
  • You love experimenting with new tools and suggesting ways to use them to improve the product
  • You're comfortable in the command line working with CLIs, git, etc.
  • You know how to test code and identify bugs (and hopefully an idea of how to fix them)
We know this list can be intimidating. If you’re missing a few things from this list but still think you'd be awesome at the role we'd love to see your application anyway (just mention what you're missing in the "Anything else you wanna tell us" question).

If you think you'd be a good fit for more than one of our roles there's no need to apply twice. Just add a note in your application you'd like to be considered for that too.

Data Migration Specialist & PHP Developer
EmpowerDB Apply
Jquery Javascript Css Php Mysql
Apply

Headquarters: North America
URL: https://www.empowerdb.com

We are a cloud based database company serving non-profits, mostly Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault support providers.  We are looking for a person to help with two tasks:

Data Migration

Many of our customers are switching to us from some other system.  We get data in every shape, size, format, level of complexity, and level of cleanliness that you can imagine.

We have built a special data import tool to help facilitate the data migration process.  So there's minimal writing code to teach the system that "Female" should be code 1, "Male" should be code 2.  Etc...  The tool that we've built makes that process incredibly easy.  However, knowledge of PHP and MySQL are needed to understand how that tool is working and help fill in any gaps.

What's NOT incredibly easy is being able to look at the source files coming in, understanding what that data is actually describing... looking at the way our database is structured, understanding what our database is describing... and figuring out how to get the various pieces from the previous system to ours.  It takes a lot of creativity, problem solving, and training to work out how to properly import all data with the least chance of data being lost or duplicated.

We are already fully versed in how this process works and are simply looking for additional support.  We are looking for people who are open to learning our tool and adapting to our ways of accomplishing this incredibly important task for our customers.

Strong communication skills and English ability would be a valuable asset.

PHP Developer

We are also looking to hire someone who could also help out with our general product development and debugging.

We use PHP (no framework), JavaScript, jQuery, CSS, and HTML.  That's basically it.  We intentionally keep it simple.

Our main needs revolve around building custom reports and making additional tools for importing and exporting data. But there will certainly be a very mixed bag of tasks that you'll be given.

Job Structure

You would be an independent contractor.

We are flexible on whether this would be a part time or full time position.  We would much rather focus on finding someone who was a good fit for our company than trying to find someone who can work a certain number of hours.

Applicants can be from anywhere in the world.  But we'd expect you to work some hours overlapping with our US Eastern Time schedule.

To Apply

Simply fill out our application form here:  https://forms.gle/iAxppruANc8gB4g18

We'll reach out to you within days if we feel like you could be a good fit.

We will not respond to recruiters or follow up emails.  Please no emails!!!

Senior Software Engineer
Spreedly Apply
Elixir Kafka Riak Linux Rails
Apply

Headquarters: Spreedly
URL: https://www.spreedly.com/careers

Spreedly is a rapidly growing, growth private-equity funded digital payments company with headquarters located in downtown Durham, North Carolina. We've developed a high volume, global solution that makes the payment ecosystem better by bringing together a diverse range of merchants and solution providers from around the world.

Our employees help build a culture that values independence, transparency, and collaboration in a digital-first communication environment. We hope you do your best work at Spreedly and find a mature workplace striving to support the ebb and flow of work-life harmony.

Our list of "amazing functionality that customers will happily pay us for if we can just get it implemented..." is growing faster than we can check things off, and we need help from an experienced engineer that can hop into a high-functioning, experienced team and start learning and contributing quickly.

When you start at Spreedly (think first 6-12 months), you'll be spending 90%+ of your time working right on the product team building functionality for customers. Building product at Spreedly is a bit unique in that our main product is a payments API used by other developers. So while "designing a UI" may mean exactly what it sounds like (creating administrative and analytics tools), it often means thinking through how YOU would want a given API to work if you were using it. "Adding a feature for a customer" often means working through how to securely enable a developer to do something interesting with a credit card number. Super challenging and fun, we think! And since we work with credit card data on a daily basis, thinking about security is a way of life at Spreedly, as is building sustainable processes to keep that information safe (and our auditors happy).

What we're looking for in a senior engineer is somebody who's excited by jumping into pretty complex technical problems and making sense of them. We regularly deal with encryption, encoding, and security, all within the context of a distributed system. You don't have to be an expert in any of those aspects, but you should be really open to learning about them. Once you've gotten your feet under you and understand the domain well enough, we'd like you to mentor junior engineers and help them tackle the task at hand using pragmatic software practices. We're looking for people that are good at their job who are also are interested in elevating the people around them.

What We're Looking For
  • A track record of delivering well-crafted software
  • A willingness to be a generalist and the curiosity to try new things you've never done before
  • Excitement about building products for Spreedly's customers, who are primarily businesses doing commerce and their developers who are using our API's and toolkits
  • Excellent written communication skills, and a willingness to use them to document your work as necessary
  • The ability to operate autonomously, sorting your own immediate priorities out of the ever-shifting needs of a startup environment
  • Confidence in your ability to learn new tech as necessary. Today we work primarily with Ruby, Rails, Elixir, Phoenix, Riak, Kafka, Postgres, Redis, and Linux ... but are always pragmatically evaluating new languages and tools

What We Offer
  • Competitive salary
  • Outstanding medical and dental benefits (we pay 100% of monthly premiums for employees + families)
  • Life and long-term disability insurance
  • Medical and dependent care FSA
  • Optional vision insurance
  • Open PTO policy
  • Remote friendly work environment. Even our local employees are remote 3 days per week!*
  • Tues./Thurs. are in-office days for local employees - the rest of the week employees are free to work wherever they choose*
  • Paid lunches on in-office days for local employees*
  • Quarterly visits to HQ for remote employees*
  • 12 weeks paid Family Leave
  • Matching 401k plan
  • Monthly digital lifestyle stipend
  • Yearly professional development opportunities
  • *All employees are currently working fully remotely due to COVID19

We're constantly striving to have the fairest and most productive hiring process possible. We want to ensure that every candidate is treated equally and our interactions are designed with that goal in mind. If you want to get a sense for what your application process will look like, we'd encourage you to read the following: Stop Hazing Your Potential Hires and Programming Puzzles Are Not the Answer.

If this at all sounds interesting, we'd love to hear from you!

This position is open to candidates in the contiguous US only. We are not set up to support remote employees from CA, NY, WA or outside the contiguous US. All applicants must have a US work visa.

We appreciate your interest in our company. Because of the high volume of resume flow, we will only respond to those candidates that we think will be a potential fit.

It is our intention to help creative professionals (as well as all manner of student) bring their work to the public with technical precision, relevance and poetry. We have no interest in the status quo. Our team is small and comprised primarily of artists and musicians. • MVC concepts and front-end view rendering
  • RESTful concepts and APIs
  • 3rd party API integration
